Is the Lord Calling You?
“Behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.”
(Hosea 2:14, RSVCE)
When establishing the reform, St. Teresa of Avila (a.k.a. ‘St. Teresa of Jesus’), imparted to her spiritual daughters her own fiery, apostolic spirit, emphasizing that, although they have been called to a life of solitude and prayer, pursing a life of union with God through love, it is never to be lived out in a spirit of selfishness, but whole-heartedly for the salvation of souls and the good of the Church. In her own words, her daughters are to busy themselves in prayer, especially “for those who are defenders of the Church, and for the preachers and learned men who defend her.” As St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face famously wrote, “I came [to Carmel] to save souls and especially to pray for priests” (Story of a Soul).
